My 5 Day Detox Review...

I recently decided to do go on a juice cleanse after Thanksgiving. I know it may seem strange to some with the holidays coming up but I could tell that it was time for a cleanse. I do them usually twice a year just to give my digestive system a break, flush toxins out and keep my discipline in check. Normally, I juice my own juices and fast for longer periods of time, but I found a great 5 day juicing deal through Pure Juicery on Groupon that I couldn't pass up. I received 5 cold-pressed 16 oz. juices every day for 5 days for only $124...For anyone that's familiar with juicing that's a STEAL. I didn't get to pick out my own juices, however, they did ask me which fruits or vegetables I didn't like and what was my goal for the cleanse. I told them that I was open to all and my purpose was to detox and reboot. I would suggest to a newbie to juicing to start with a 3 day cleanse and work your way up from their. 

If your wondering, they didn't pay me to write any of this, I just wanted to share my experience with those who may be considering doing a juice fast. I originally planned to do a vlog of my experience and show my day 1 - day 5 via video, but it didn't come together as planned, so blog it is.

Their are many benefits to juicing, such as:

1) Gives your digestive system a break
2) Packed with essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and LIVING enzymes.
3) Helps rid your body of toxins
3) Increases your energy levels and aid's in weight loss
4) Boosts your immune system and can reduce your risk of cancer. 

Three Days Before:

I ate mostly salads, fruit, steamed vegetables, and drunk water. Nothing heavy or high in sugar, I wanted to keep it light so that my transition into the cleanse would be smooth. If you go from eating crap to juicing, abruptly, it can be really hard on your body and you'll feel worse in the beginning.

The Night Before: 

Went to pick up my juices for day 1 and 2. Went to the grocery store and purchased 5 gallons of spring water, psyllium husk capsules, detox tea, lemons, and ginger.

12/14 Day 1:

7:00 am Had my morning tea, which consisted of 1 cup of spring water, 1/2 juice of lemon, 1 tbs of juiced ginger, and 1 tbs of apple cider vinegar.

8:00 am Had juice #1. None of their juices have names listed, only letters. This one was marked (AC), tastes like carrots and maybe orange bell pepper, it was pretty good. Took 3 psyllium husk capsules.

9:00 am 45 minuet workout on the elliptical. I wasn't sure how I would feel so I took it easy.

11:00 am Had my snack juice #2 (LG), its a green juice, If I could guess I would say it had celery, spinach, cucumber, apple and lemon; it wasn't too bad.

1:00 pm Had juice #3 (44), another green juice, taste like kale and lemon.

4:00 pm Snack juice #4 (GL), tasted just like LG. Took another 3 psyllium husk capsules.

7:00 pm Had dinner (JJ) By this time all the green juices are starting to taste alike, so I'm unable to say what I think is in it.

9:00 pm Time for detox tea, I bought Healthy Fasting tea by Yogi. It was pretty good.

Day 1 Overview: Today went really well for the first day, no head aches, no hangry attitudes or hunger pains. Feels like I'm going to the bathroom every 30 minuets to urinate. I was worried that exercising was going to drain all my energy but I felt great afterwards. I only eliminated once today (#2), wondering how my night will go with drinking all these liquids. 

Day 2:

6:00 am Let me start by saying, I was up and down all night having to use the bathroom (#1), but in between bathroom breaks I slept sound like a baby :-)

Had my morning tea.

Day 2 Overview: Today went well, I noticed that I was more hungry today then yesterday. My stomach growled every two to three hours like clock-work queuing for more juice. Didn't eliminate today. Picked up my juices tonight for day three and four, looking forward to day three.   


Day 3:

6:10 am Went to the bathroom a few times last night but wasn't as bad as last night. Had my morning tea.

8:30 am Step aerobics class

11:00 am Had my snack juice #2 (LG).

Day 3 Overview: Still going strong. My mouth is extremely dry, even with all the liquids I'm drinking, I'm not eliminating like I would like to, so, my sister suggested I take some castor oil before I go to bed. I took 2 tbs of castor oil with 2 tbs of fresh lemon juice. 

Day 4:

6:30 am Woke up and went straight to the bathroom, the castor oil definitely worked for me.

11:00 am Had my snack juice #2 (LG). Took 3 psyllium husk capsules. 

1:00 pm went for a walk

4:00 pm Snack juice #4 (HH), This was a green juice made with pear and other vegetables. I know i'm cleansing because it taste SUPER sweet, like I almost wanted to add water too it.

Day 4 Overview: I know my body is going through a process because, I'm starting to break out, my skin is dry, my mouth is still dry, and my HS is flaring up for some reason. Picked up my day 5 juices. No castor oil tonight. Ready for tomorrow. 

 

Day 5:

6:00 am Early morning cycle class.

Had my morning tea and my (AC) juice

Day 5 Overview:  Besides my scalp being inflamed and my dry skin, I really feel amazing lol. So amazing in fact, that I think I'm going to juice another 5 days. I had scheduled my colonic for tomorrow but I'm going to push it back to next Monday. I feel like this was a great start but my body needs more time to thoroughly cleanse.

Oh and did I mention I'm 8 pounds down...LOL

I hope my 5 Day Detox Review is beneficial to someone who's considering doing an upcoming cleanse.

Your body's response to detoxing, may be different from mine; every "body" is different, but how your body responds has a lot to do with your diet prior to the cleanse so be mindful of that. Some may experience more extreme reactions as their body goes through the initial detox phase, such as severe headaches and hunger pains, nausea, cold like symptoms, fatigue ect. but just ride it out, it will get better. :-)
